Tennessee is thinking up creative adj. new and interesting ways to get parents involved in their children’s schooling. The state already passed a law that sets up parent contracts. The contracts include guidelines that tell parents how they can help. Lawmakers recently passed another bill asking parents to grade themselves using report cards. The governor says he’s likely to sign the bill and make it law.
Parents can choose whether they want to take part in these programs. They won’t be punished if they fail to follow the contract or fill in the report card.
Still, lawmakers hope the programs will get parents more involved.
